Nothing Gold Can Stay is a pop punk band – heavy on the punk. However, this Canadian outfit fits easily into either pop-rock or heavier scenes, drawing a crowd in either scene. This plethora of influences is what gives Nothing Gold Can Stay’s Silver Lining EP something for everyone to enjoy. You can pick up the EP on Bandcamp and, for those in the area, check out NGCS on tour 8/13-8/21.

What’s your hometown (or what are your hometowns)?
Based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
How did the band come together? How long has it been?
Nothing Gold Can Stay came together just over a year ago.
How have you grown since you started?
About four months ago, we went through some member changes, including a new vocalist Mack and rhythm guitarist Nathan. We’ve also started bringing some new influences from different genres into our writing style on the full length that we’re working on. We’ve never written stuff quite like this before, and it’s taking a positive turn; we’re really digging where this writing is taking us.
What sets you apart from other bands?
We really take the influence from the harder and more punk side of the pop punk genre, while still maintaining the vocal melodies and lyrical themes of traditional pop punk. The influences we pull from other genres, including emo and hardcore can help bring fans from a wider scope. We’ve been offered shows from straight up hardcore bands as well as bands that focus more on the pop side of things, and both have had equal turnouts.
What’s the best part about being in your band?
We really enjoy the fact that we’re all on the same page when it comes to writing and group decisions. We often can just get together and hang out and have some drinks while not constantly focused on the band- it’s great that we can all be friends too.
More times than not, influences tend to bleed through. What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making?
We all individually pull influences separately from unique band. The guitar writing is inspired by bands that range from New Found Glory or The Wonder Years, and in our new stuff you’ll hear influences drawn from bands like You Blew It! or American Football. Our vocalist comes from a background of acoustic, folk and indie music, and writes lots of his vocal melodies with influence of City & Colour and The Dangerous Summer.
